Preamble and follow on as Case Study 2

The project was conducted on stage payments therefore at any point in time the Client could request a stock reconciliation and valuation.

Goods were arriving on none production orders and parts were being moved to an unsecured area loosely identified as the “Prototypes Area”

Parts common to more than one build were not placed together consequentially parts were taken for the wrong builds.

The problem of parts not being available for build was becoming very serious and more so when parts were “borrowed” from the production line.

Prototype identification, booking in, inspection, stocking and picking were not possible.

The problem was so serious that a proposal was put to management that an enclosed store be created with limited access and a warning to staff that any unauthorised access and parts removal would result in procedures being invoked that could lead to dismissal

The £30.000.00 proposal was accepted and included

A £25.000.00 Multilift store for small parts lockable and access coded

Shelving, racking and a surrounding 10foot high mesh fence with lockable gates

An office within the store for the Store Man contained a desk, computer also with a lockable door.

It was remarked at the time that the only thing missing was the barbed wire and the guard dog, however this was not taken up

The changes within the company structure are as follows:

• Data processing

• Stores coding changed to represent build and project

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Project A

• Build 01

• Location M01 (Multilift tray 1)

• Part number location is A01M01

• Information Technology

• Links to bills of materials were now picking lists by project and build specific

• Enter A01 and all stocks available for that build will be shown

• Goods receiving

• Parts visually identified with bright yellow labels or tie ons marked with part number and order number.

• Booking in common to standard company system

• Tracking booking in label indicated the project and build number

• New parts were placed in quarantine lockable wire basket pallets with the new inspection reports

Inspection
